Spring Cleaning Day 2: Clean ceiling fans & air conditioners
How did you go yesterday? Ready for day 2?
Today we are getting up high again and cleaning the ceiling fans. Spring is the perfect time to make sure they are clean and dust free before you start using them again for summer. Don’t forget to also give any air conditioner filters a good clean while you are at it (and any central heating vents if you have these).
How to clean ceiling fans without dust flying everywhere
If you’ve ever tried to simply wipe of your ceiling fans with a cloth you’ve probably discovered that it isn’t quite that simple. All that really results is dust filling the air, only to later resettle on the fan (& everywhere else). Not ideal.
The secret to cleaning ceiling fans is a pillow case. Yep. Super advanced! Take your (old) pillow case and enclose the wing of the fan in it (as if the fan was the pillow), then with your hands clasp both sides of the fan through the pillow case and pull it off.
Tadah! Clean fan and no dust. You may then need to give it a good wipe with a damp cloth to get any sneaky little suckers that stuck around.
If you’re not a fan of climbing up to clean ceiling fans then I can highly recommend the ENJO dust flexi complete on their telescopic pole. It’s not cheap but it lasts AGES and you can bend it into just about any shape to get dust out from anywhere. It is perfect for venetian blinds, ceiling fans and behind anything hard to reach. Dust clings to it so it won’t go flying around in the air only to resettle later.
