Speed Cleaning Tips

Speed cleaning

No one likes to spend their weekend cleaning and I’m no exception. I’ve implemented these basic speed cleaning techniques that keep your home clean and tidy every day so the dreaded “big clean” can be a thing of the past!

The 2 Minute Bathroom Wipe Over

What you need

  • Flushable bathroom wipes (I use Aldi or White King)
  • Glass wipes (again, I use Aldi)
  • Toilet cleaner

What you do

  • Every night, before bed grab your wipes and wipe over the basin, toilet, taps, bath etc with the flushable wipes then the mirror and shower screen with the glass wipes.
  • Squirt some toilet cleaner in the toilet, quick scrub with the brush.
  • Flush away your wipes (glass wipes in the bin). NOTE: It is now recommended NOT to flush so called “flushable” wipes. Either bin them or use reusable rags that you can wash.
  • Done!

Your bathroom will sparkle if you do this daily.

The Daily Bucket Collection

What you need

  • A plastic bucket, labelled for each room of your home (the small flexible ones are the best, I got mine in Kmart)
  • 5 minutes

What you do

  • Start in the living areas and pick up everything that doesn’t belong and either chuck it or place it in the bucket of the room it belongs to.
  • Repeat for other areas of the home (kitchen etc)
  • Next time you are going to a different room take the relevant bucket and put away whatever is in it where it belongs.
  • Kids can be involved and in my house if they don’t put away their bucket belongings I confiscate them until they have done a chore!

Kitchen Clean Up

What you need

  • A cloth
  • Spray & Wipe
  • Dishwashing liquid (or a dishwasher!)
  • 15-20 minutes

What you do

  • Collect all the dishes from anywhere in the house and stack next to the sink or load in the dishwasher.
  • Wash up all dishes.
  • Tidy away everything on all benches (into your room buckets if you don’t have time right now to put them away).
  • Wipe down all surfaces & sink.

5 Minute Fridge Clear Out

What you need

  • A garbage bag
  • 5 minutes

What you do

  • Once a week open up your fridge and toss everything that has gone bad into a garbage bag and into the bin!

Wipe as You Watch

What you need

  • A cloth & Spray & Wipe or some disposable cleaning wipes
  • 2 minutes

What you do

  • Wipe down all hard surfaces within view of the tv. Dust bunnies be gone!

I’ll do anything to get through the housework quickly. There are so many other, more fun things to do. Thanks so much for sharing this post at Thriving on Thursdays. I’m featuring this at tomorrow’s party. Hope to see some of your more wonderful hints and tips.

It sounds so easy … having said that I had already started doing the bathroom thing. And keeping any area clean is easier when there aren’t small humans in the house. Agree that getting them to help is key.

Flushable wipes are an environmental disaster. I can’t believe you recommended their use. They have been proved to be not biodegradable. They are beginning to cause massive problems in our sewer and septic systems. They are NOT biodradable. Another product invented that we should not be using. What’s wrong with old rags from old worn out clothes and old work out linen that’s what I use. Don’t have to buy it and using something over and over again before it has to be thrown out.
