Kitchen Spring Cleaning Tips (& Printable Checklist)

October 28, 2016 By: Michellecomment

The kitchen is one of the most used rooms in the house. It also gets some of the toughest treatment in terms of dirt and grime. It’s time to get that kitchen sparkling with this kitchen spring cleaning checklist.

Kitchen Spring Cleaning

Where to start

When cleaning, it’s always best to start at the top and work your way down. If you clean skirting boards before you’ve done the benches then they’ll end up dirty again!

Before you get into the deep cleaning, do the washing up, unload the dishwasher if you have one and clear the benches.

What you’ll need

Before you get started, you’ll need a few cleaning essentials and some other bits and pieces. As a guide, grab:

  • Spray and wipe
  • A collection of rags and cloths
  • Window cleaner
  • Cream cleanser (for stubborn stains)
  • Gumption or similar (for baked on gunk)
  • Paper towels
  • Garbage bags
  • Oven cleaner (or bicarb and vinegar for a more natural alternative)
  • A cardboard box for things that are being donated
  • Gloves

The Kitchen Spring Cleaning Checklist

Ok… let’s do this!

General

  • Wash curtains/blinds
  • Clean window sills
  • Clean fly screens (brush/vacuum at a minimum)
  • Remove cobwebs
  • Clean skirting boards
  • Spot clean stains on benches (gumption or cream cleanser work well, make sure to check they are suitable for your surface first)
  • Clean out sink, bicarb and vinegar works well and you can polish it up with olive oil (then rinse with detergent and warm water)

Appliances

  • Dust and clean the exhaust fan
  • Deep clean oven
  • Clean out toaster
  • Wipe outside and inside microwave
  • Clean cooktop
  • Deodorise and clean dishwasher (how to clean and deodorise your dishwasher)
  • Clean out the fridge and freezer (also a good time to do an inventory of what’s hiding in the freezer!) There is a free printable freezer inventory list here.
  • Wipe outside of fridge and seals
  • Vacuum behind fridge
  • Remove and sort through any artworks/letters/mail etc on fridge

Cupboards

  • Wipe undersides of cupboards (and tops of cupboards if they are open)
  • Wipe outsides of cupboards and all handles
  • Empty cupboards and wipe inside
  • While cupboards are empty, sort through things from inside them and declutter anything not needed
  • Wipe out drawer organisers

Pantry

  • Sort through out of date food
  • Wipe over shelves (use a bit of oil of cloves if mould is an issue)
  • Clean shelf and organisers/boxes

Other

  • Wipe down splashbacks
  • Clean out fruit bowl
  • Dust any art/pictures etc
  • Clean and disinfect the rubbish bins (here’s how to clean kitchen bins)

And… DONE!

I’ve also made up a FREE printable kitchen spring cleaning checklist which you can download HERE 🙂
