When it comes to Father’s Day gifts, this year I have totally aced it! Technically it’s my husband who’s benefiting (so I guess that means the boys are the genius gift givers), and I have to admit that it may be a gift that slightly benefits me too. Here is an introduction to the ultimate in Jura automatic coffee machines (& my full Jura coffee machine review)…

The Jura E8 Automatic Coffee Machine…Sooo pretty!
Jura has very kindly sent us out their E8 coffee machine for us to review and I’m just a tad excited. I’ve set it up at my parents house as I didn’t want to spoil the surprise for my hubby and have been giving it a thorough testing. They’ve also included the Smart Connect which enables communication between the coffee machine and an iPhone or iPad and let me just say… it’s GENUIS! So, here are my thoughts on the Jura E8 automatic coffee machine.
Also, don’t miss your chance to WIN your choice of an automatic milk frother or a Jura gift box. Details are at the end of the post.
Jura E8 Coffee Machine Review
You can find the Jura E8 Coffee Machine on Amazon (see website for current pricing).
Jura E8 Set up
There is a small amount of assembly required when you pull the machine from the box (filter, milk jug etc) but all up I had it set up and working within 10 minutes. I have to say it is rather sexy looking with its shiny black and silver exterior. Everything was really solid and of excellent quality, as you’d expect from a high end machine! It is physically a big machine, so it’s going to be taking prime position on the bench, looking good matters 😉 I was also pleased that it doesn’t show finger prints as much as I had expected and it’s super easy to clean.
How the Jura E8 Functions
The first thing that struck me was that everything about the machine is smart. From the automatic bean level detection to prompts for cleaning (and automatic cleaning!). It functions is a way that just makes sense. This might seem pretty logical but in my experience, kitchen appliances often aren’t as logical or easy to use as you’d expect. The Jura E8 functions exactly the way you’d expect.

Latte macchiato anyone?
I also love that you can tweak settings mid use. If I put a larger than usual cup in it was easy to add more coffee or milk while it filled to get the right size (and it was also easy to stop the flow if I’d overestimated!). Everything is viewable on a colour LED display and you can personalise settings to get the perfect coffee for every member of the family.
Jura Smart Connect with Jura Coffee App
When I heard about this feature my first reaction was that it was simply GENIUS. Basically it is a small wireless connector that plugs into the machine and is controlled by an app on your iPhone or iPad. You can choose your coffee and the machine will prepare it.
- Coffee on the go? Yes please!
It’s ideally suited to people who prefer expresso or black coffee as the only downside is that it doesn’t get the milk jug out of the fridge for you at 6am. It is awesome for customising all your coffee preferences though and I think it will actually become our preferred way of controlling the machine. The Jura Smart Connect is available separately to the machine and at only $99 I’d totally recommend it.
Jura E8 Coffee Quality

The perfect fine foam every time.
How good do fresh beans smell?! That has to be one of my favourite parts of expresso coffee. I’ve tested out almost all the options for milk based coffee in the machine (I just can’t do coffee without milk… bad me). The foam is amazing! The late macchiato is my favourite so far, it’s so clever the way the milk separate and then the layers of coffee build up. My husband has been VERY happy with the quality so far. You can adjust milk temperature, grinding settings, coffee/milk balance and heaps more. It will be weeks before I’ve had the chance to try everything.
As well as coffee, I’ve tested out the hot water and foamed milk options for easy hot chocolates and tea. Perfect if you are preparing a few different drinks for guests. It can do it all! Oh, and did I mention it cleans itself…
You can watch it in action here (making a flat white).
Specifications
Overall we are pretty stoked with the Jura E8 automatic coffee machine. We’ve owned a couple of automatic coffee machines over the past five years and this one so far blows them all out of the water. I love that it is so easy to use but still produces amazing coffee. You can check out more about the Jura E8 on the Jura website and they are available to purchase online or via a variety of retailers (including Harvey Norman, Bing Lee, Myer & David Jones).

One complaint about the JURA E8… the coffee temperature at his highest if not hot enough for our taste (170 degrees Farenheits).
We had to return it!
What a pity! We’ve found the coffee temperature to be fine but I would like the milk froth a bit hotter.
Just got one great machine. I found that the coffee hot enough. Hotter and I would burn myself and the coffee too. I agree with the froth could be hotter but not really an issue.
Great review btw

I just bought this machine this weekend – we chose this one over other espresso machines because it still brews coffee (which was a big factor for my parents whereas I’ll be making a lot of milk based espresso drinks).
Since you’ve been making ALL the drink options, which beans would you recommend using that work for both coffee and these espresso based drinks? If I used espresso beans exclusively, would it still brew a good cup of coffee? My family usually likes medium roasts.
During the home quarantine due to COVID I upgraded my ENA9 to the E8. Overall I like the E8, larger capacity for beans/water and speed to start up. The one touch functions make providing a cup of coffee or cappuccino very handy and a quality drink also. There are a couple of operational items I wish Jura would address, though not deal breakers, to make using the E8 more efficient. 1) The water tank has a “shuttered” look, along with the grey plastic, that is attractive to view but prevents one from seeing the level of water in the tank. It would be helpful if there were a clear vertical level indicator that allowed one to see how much water remains in the tank. 2) The loose grounds dispenser is problematic, the LED readout does not sense the grounds being added unless you “jiggle” or tap the lid after closing. A technician stated I was not grinding my coffee finely enough. 3) Cost and frequency of changing filters. A filter, on Amazon, is around $25 each and one filter lasts about 20 days! I am currently monitoring a second filter to measure usage. Our consumption is about 10 cups of coffee in the morning and 8 or 10 cappuccinos a week. A conversation with a technician did not shed any light on high consumption of filters. I will probably eliminate the filter, our water is <10 grains of hardness, and descale regularly. 3) The dispenser height is only 4.5 inches which limits the use of a large cup if one wants a 12 once or so. 4) The use of plastic on the drain tray along with the chrome shows scratches from the bottom of a ceramic cup. Use of a non-mar material would look less worn over time.
Overall I like my E8, some minor changes could make it even better.
