The irony of the timing for this post was really quite incredible. I was literally at the shops to buy printer ink when Nuffnang rang to ask if I wanted to review a printer. Oh how I laughed!
“Sure” I said, “will they give me extra ink too? I’m ALWAYS running out of ink at a super inconvenient time.”
“Well you’re going to love this”, the lady continued. It’s a brand new type of printer and the ink lasts two years.
Say WHAT?! TWO YEARS?
Yep! So today I introduce you to my newest electronic acquisition… The Epson Eco Tank Printer.
How many times have you gone to print something only to run out of ink half way? Then, you get to the shops only to discover that the ink costs three times as much to replace as the printer!
Epson’s EcoTank ET02550 printer has everything you love about a good printer (fast clear printing, wireless technology, scanning and copying capabilities and more), plus the ink lasts an incredibly 6500 colour pages and 4000 black and white pages.
To give you some perspective, that’s 21 reams of paper!
So last week I gave the printer a bit of a run for it’s money to check out just how good it really was.
Set up was super easy. I just plugged it in, followed the instructions to fill the ink tanks, allow them to “charge” with ink, set up the Wi-Fi for air print and I was ready to roll. Everything basically works automatically once your printer is connected to your home Wi-Fi and then the rest is easy. You’ll also need to install the printer drivers on your computers for printing from there. I found the video tutorials available on the Epson website helpful.
One feature that I personally love and works beautifully with the EcoTank is AirPrint. If you’ve not heard of it before, it basically allows you to print directly from your phone or iPad to a compatible printer. No need to upload things to your computer, just send directly. It’s great for times you want to print off tickets on the run or a quick colouring in sheet for the kids. I actually use it more than printing from the computer.
The upfront cost of the printer is higher than a standard printer (starting at a RRP of $449) but when you look at the ongoing cost of ink it is actually very cost effective long term. I personally prefer to pay a bit more up front to get something that will do the job without ongoing costs.
Key features of the Epson EcoTank ET-2550 printer
- Print/Copy/Scan (as you’d expect)
- Wifi direct meaning you can send photos straight from your smart phone or iPad to the printer via AirPrint or Google CloudPrint, which is essential in our house.
- Easy refillable ink. No more cartriges.
- Low cost replacement ink (under $15 per bottle… that lasts another two years!)
- Two year return to base warranty with registration
- Easy to understand colour LCD screen to control print, scan and copy functions
Overall I’m really pleased with my new Epson EcoTank ET-2550. The print quality is excellent, it’s fast and quiet and you never need to worry about cartridges again. Plus, the refillable ink tanks last two years and that is just unbeatable convenience. You can purchase them online through Epson’s store or via major retailers.
