Spring is here and it is time to declutter! I’ve got 7 tasks to help you with decluttering your home and your life.
Decluttering Day 3: The Fridge
Have you ever pulled out a Tupperwear container from the fridge and thought twice about whether to open it or just bin it so you don’t have to risk exposure to the contents? Yep? Me too! The fridge can be a scary scary place.
For today’s decluttering challenge you may need some gloves and a strong stomach depending on how long it has been since you really went through the contents of the fridge.
Grab an industrial strength garbage bag (you don’t want any leaks) and start binning anything past its used by date or that has started growing legs.
Take out everything that is left and give all the shelves a good wipe down.
Next work out a system for how to organise stuff. Most used stuff should be in the easiest to reach sections. Condiments etc are usually best in the door. Consider putting some smaller containers in to store deli meats, cheeses etc and to keep them fresh for longer.
Write a list of anything you binned that you need to restock. There is nothing worse than going to grab the crushed garlic only to discover you don’t have any!
Make it a habit to go through the fridge each week and chuck out anything that is past it’s best. This will also help you to spot stuff that is on it’s way out before it dies completely so that you can cook it up and reduce the amount of waste you generate.
Enjoy your shiny fresh fridge!
