The weather is warming up and Spring is in the air. It’s the perfect time to get some of those more neglected spring cleaning tasks off the “To Do” list.
Whether you prefer to clean by room or just tackle a random task a day, these quick and easy spring cleaning tasks are a great start and shouldn’t take more that 10-15 minutes each.
If you’re feeling enthusiastic you could get them all done in a day. Alternatively, spread the tasks out over a week or so and tick them off the list as you go (you do like lists right…)
Simple Spring Cleaning Tasks To Tackle Today
1. Turn and vacuum mattresses and under beds
Rotating mattresses regularly is important to ensure the wear easily. Every few months is an ideal interval and it’s also the perfect chance to give them a good vacuum and catch those dust bunnies hiding under the bed.
2. Go through the pantry for out of date foods
When was the last time you took a bit of a stocktake of what’s hiding in your pantry? Check the used by and best before dates and give it a good clean out.
Don’t worry about organising the whole thing if you don’t have the time. Just spend 10-15 minutes clearing out what you can.
If you’re feeling extra enthusiastic you could even do a freezer inventory. Here’s a free printable freezer inventory checklist to help.
3. Clean the fans
I find the easiest and least messy way to clean ceiling fans is with an old pillow case. Wrap it around the fan blade and dust as you pull it off. This way the dust stays contained!
Don’t have ceiling fans? No problem. Give the filters in the air conditioning, heating or exhaust fans a dust and rinse.
4. Dust and wipe light switches and skirting boards
Dust and grime builds up on light switches and skirting boards pretty easily. Particularly if you have pets and kids.
Ideally giving these a dust and wipe each month works best, but if it’s been a while, grab a cloth and give them all a once over.
5. Clean the mailbox and front door/flyscreen
When did you last clean the mailbox? Never?!
I have to admit that until we sold our house this year, I’d not cleaned our mailbox or front fly screen in over 9 years. Yep… NINE YEARS!
I was actually pretty shocked at how much grime, dirt and random dead insects were lurking in there. Grab the car wash detergent (or any old detergent) and give the letterbox a good clean, inside and out.
Once you’re done, give the front door a thorough dust and wipe over and vacuum/hose the fly screen. Just make sure you’ve closed the door before you pull out the hose!
