50+ Five Minute Decluttering Tasks To Do Today

When you are busy (which is always, let’s be honest), it can be hard to keep on top of clutter. It’s easy to get caught up with how long everything will take and so do nothing at all. Forever waiting until you have an hour or so to really focus.

The reality is that that hour never comes, and the tasks build up. Instead, grab 5 minutes here and there to get little things done. Here are 50+ ideas for 5 minute decluttering tasks you can do any time.

5 Minute Decluttering Ideas To Do NOW

Kitchen Decluttering

  1. Excess coffee cups
  2. Five out of date food items from the fridge
  3. Six out of date food items from the pantry
  4. One appliance you don’t need (electric grater… I’m looking at you!)
  5. Three cookbooks (or more if you are game!)
  6. Excess plastic bags
  7. Broken crockery
  8. Old/broken vases
  9. Platters hiding in the back of the cupboard
  10. Five containers with missing lids/bases/other bits

Living Room Decluttering

  1. Old magazines
  2. Bills/mail
  3. DVD’s you aren’t going to watch again (seriously… Netflix!)
  4. Three random ornaments you don’t even like!
  5. Miscellaneous junk that is pilled on the table/kitchen bench

Kids Room Decluttering

  1. Broken toys
  2. Eight pieces of outgrown clothing
  3. Two pairs of outgrown shoes
  4. Old books they don’t read
  5. Random school artwork/notes etc

Bedroom Decluttering

  1. Three tops that don’t fit or don’t flatter
  2. Two pairs of shoes you don’t wear
  3. Any hats you don’t need
  4. Excess belts
  5. Scarves that have gone unworn for a year or more
  6. Two bottoms that don’t fit or don’t flatter
  7. Undies/bras that have holes or are out of shape
  8. Swimwear you don’t wear any more
  9. Three bags you don’t need
  10. Two things off your bedside table

Bathroom Decluttering

  1. Almost empty bottles of anything (or combine them)
  2. Broken, old, gross brushes
  3. Old make up (here is how often you should clear out makeup)
  4. Excess toiletries (do you really need six moisturisers?) Donate any that are unopened
  5. Mouldy bath toys
  6. Old razors

Laundry Decluttering

  1. Towels with holes or that are old and worn
  2. Excess wash cloths
  3. Cleaning products you don’t use
  4. Excess pillows
  5. Sheets that aren’t in a set or don’t fit a bed you have

Study Decluttering

  1. Pens that don’t work
  2. Random stationary you never use
  3. Excess cords
  4. Old computers/printers/other electrical bits
  5. Books you’re never going to read again (especially ones with info you’ll just Google)

Garage/Shed Decluttering

  1. Old paint tins (keep a record of colours)
  2. Rusty tools
  3. Camping supplies you don’t need
  4. Outdoor toys the kids have grown out of
  5. Christmas decorations you don’t use

So there you go… 50+ simple ideas of things you can declutter in just 5 minutes. Each one is small enough to tackle whenever you have a spare second and if you do it regularly, you’ll notice a huge difference in your home.
