Welcome to Day Five!
Today’s decluttering task is… NIC NACKS AND ORNAMENTS
Over time, bits and pieces accumulate in our homes that have been picked up from markets, given to us as gifts or collected as we are travelling. They initially seem like a good idea but as time goes by they become less loved or no longer fit with the décor of your home.
Today’s task is to get rid of all the nic nacks and ornaments that are collecting dust and taking up space. If they are sentimental perhaps keep just a few and choose a special place for them.
Consider if there are ways you could repurpose them into something smaller. I’ve written a post today about how to store, display and repurpose sentimental keepsakes. You may find it helpful.
It is OK to get rid of stuff that is new/unused or even expensive. Re-gift it, give it to charity, just don’t KEEP it!
Remember to think about these things when deciding if something should stay or go.
Do I use it?
Do I love it?
Does it serve a genuine purpose for a genuine need I have?
Am I keeping it “just in case”?
I like the use of these little items and making them into little works of Art Great idea. I have started really well with de cluttering. I have half a box full of items that I have been adding to it if not daily I will do it weekly. I am also doing the wardrobe, alittle different than you have said. But its still going on.
Good work! The wardrobe is coming so you’ll just be a bit ahead 🙂
Hi Michelle
I only discovered your website on Monday of last week, so I started very late (you began in June of this year).
I liked the idea of the 30 day challenge of de-cluttering, so I jumped in….now at Day 5 Nic-Nacks.
It’s been great and I’m hoping to keep it up! I did register with you for the daily tips and newsletter, but I haven’t
received anything yet. Is that option still available?.
I see Day 6 is Toys. I don’t have any kids but I’m substituting Socks, Tights, Leotards for it.
Looking forward to more decluttering….such a great feeling to off-load all that stuff!
Thanks for a great resource!….. so happy to have found it!
Ethna
Hi Ethna, The daily emails were only running when the course was “live” but I’m hoping in the future to have it set up so anyone can sign up at any time and get the emails. 🙂
